About NW Rider Publications

NW Rider Magazine was created by horse people, for horse people.

What began as a grassroots print publication quickly galloped into the hearts of riders across the Northwest. Distributed in feed stores, tack shops, and through private subscriptions, NW Rider reached over 15,000 readers at its peak—offering thoughtful, regionally grounded content for horsemen and women who cared about more than just ribbons and results.

From day one, the mission was clear: to offer honest, practical stories and training insights specific to the Pacific Northwest—written in the voice of real riders, trainers, and horse lovers living it every day.

Today, NW Rider continues that legacy in new ways. We’ve grown to include:

  • Print and digital publications
  • Reflective journals and rider tools
  • Interviews, essays, and real-life stories from the barn aisle
  • Online content and resources for mindful horsemanship

Whether you’re an old friend of the magazine or discovering us for the first time, NW Rider exists to bring value, clarity, and connection to your journey—both in the saddle and on the page.

Because good horsemanship starts with paying attention—and we’re here to help you do just that.

A bit about our owner/editor

Wendy Hensley has been at the helm of NW Rider since 2012, when she took a chance on a small regional magazine and grew it into a widely distributed print publication found in feed stores, barns, and mailboxes throughout the Northwest. At its height, NW Rider reached over 15,000 horse people across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and beyond—sharing thoughtful stories, training insights, and real-world horsemanship.

After stepping back to reevaluate the pace and direction of the publication, Wendy now brings NW Rider into a new season—one shaped by presence, purpose, and deeper connection. This version of the magazine reflects a quieter kind of horsemanship: the kind that values reflection, good questions, and growth that takes root over time.

What’s kept her coming back—through the shifts, restarts, and seasons—is the belief that horses have more to teach us than we’ll ever teach them. NW Rider has always been about making space for those lessons, and about helping riders write down the parts of the journey that usually go unnoticed.

In addition to her editorial work, Wendy is the author of several reflective journals created for horse people who want to track progress, process their rides, and stay grounded in relationship-first horsemanship.
